Every year, 700 students from about 80 nationalities participate as scholarship holders in the European Forum Alpbach. Join smart minds from around the world in a charming Alpine village, immersing yourself in an environment bursting with novel ideas, new ways of thinking and opportunities for making great contacts.
With the Alpbach scholarship programme, young people under 30 can attend this leading interdisciplinary conference and a variety of academic seminars. A basic scholarship covers the participation fee to all events at the European Forum Alpbach. Additional subsidies are available for accommodation and daily allowances.

A complete application requires a filled in online application form as well as a motivational statement, a curriculum vitae, certificates and transcripts and proof of English proficiency.
Motivational statement (up to 3,000 characters)
The essential features to be included in your motivational statement are:
– a comment on your personal thoughts and ideas about the topic of 2018: “Diversity & Resilience”
– your perspectives on European integration as well as your view on the values and ideas of the European Forum Alpbach
Please note that you do not need to upload a file. You will fill in your CV in the application form.
The curriculum vitae should display your education, practical experience and extra-curricular activities.
Letters of recommendation are not required.
Certificates and transcripts
Please upload the following documents with your application:
– copies of your highest and latest obtained school or university certificates
– a transcript covering all credits obtained during the last (academic) year
– alternatively: a confirmation of your last obtained school or work experience
If your transcripts and certificates are in a language other than German or English, please submit a translation. This translation does not need to be certified.
For the Seminar Week and the Symposia of the European Forum Alpbach, a minimum European level B2 or academic IELTS 5.5, 6 or 6.5 is required.
Native speakers have to upload a copy of their passport.
If you are a non-native speaker, there are two ways to prove your language proficiency in English:
An independent committee reviews all applications for content and completeness. Applicants who have been granted a scholarship by the European Forum Alpbach Foundation will be informed by the second half of May 2018 via email. Please ensure you provide us in your online application with an active email address at which we can contact you. We also recommend you to check your spam folder regularly. We kindly ask you not to contact us to ask about the status of your application before the end of May.
