Krytyka's Editorial Board Member Yuri Andrukhovych was awarded Vilenica 2017 International Literary Prize. The prize will be officially presented at the ceremony in the Vilenica Karst Cave in Slovenia, during the 32nd Vilenica International Literary Festival, on 9 September 2017. The Festival is organized by the Slovene Writers’ Association and the Cultural Society Vilenica.

Since its beginnings in 1986, the central event of the Vilenica Festival has been the presentation of the Vilenica International Literary Prize. The Prize is awarded for exceptional achievement in poetry, prose, drama, or in the essay form created in the Central European cultural space and which expresses with particular aesthetic merit the human and cultural experience of the nations from the Baltic to the Adriatic, from Bern to Belgrade.

The presentation ceremony is held in the evocative ambience of the Karst cave after which the prize is named.

According to the jury's statement, "The Vilenica Prize deservedly goes to Yuri Andrukhovych for his full-blooded, courageous and free-thinking literature, which restores voice to the seemingly and unjustly forgotten parts of Europe and thus restores to us, Central Europeans, our individual and shared past and future with a daring, humorous, intelligent and complex approach."

32nd Vilenica International Literary Festival will be held from 5 to 10 September 2017 at various locations in Slovenia. The festival will feature established authors from Central Europe and beyond who will appear at literary readings, accompanied by a rich programme including round-table discussions, a colloquium, presentations of literatures and books, a book fair, a series of cultural and artistic events as well.
